Whakato works with farmers and weavers to extract fibers from unusual plants and make clothes with minimum impact on nature. Based in the Himalayan foothills, our current collection is made from fibers extracted from the lotus stem. From inception, we only design clothes that will safely biodegrade or that can be recycled at the end of their life. We seek out suppliers and partners that share our values and keep researching innovative raw materials to use. Not only do we reveal our entire supply chain from fiber to finish, we also help customers extend the life of their clothes via educatory steps to care for and repair garments. As a small team of two women, we are taking baby steps towards shifting from anything that strains the planet in the name of fashion to promoting harmless, compostable, and sustainable fabrics for your clothes (and nature). With so much secrecy in the fashion world, we put both our feet in TMI, offering utmost transparency as to how each of our pieces came to be.

Care Instructions: Care instructions for plant dyed fabric: • Wash your clothes only when needed. 40°C - short program. Try airing clothing outside in the shade to freshen it up. • Don't Let Wet Clothes Sit: Don’t leave wet clothes in a pile or sitting in the machine for too long as this gives the colors time to leach out. • Don’t dry in the sunlight – always dry in the shade. Sunlight will rapidly fade some dyes. • Use a gentle and pH neutral washing detergent.
